Job summary

County of Chester, South Carolina is seeking an Automotive Mechanic/Technician to plan, schedule, and perform repairs and preventive maintenance on the county's automobile fleet, including cars, trucks, vans and other motorized equipment.

You will diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic systems, perform routine maintenance, lube and safety inspections, and use shop equipment such as scans and brake lathes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; two years' vehicle maintenance experience or equivalent.
• Experience with preventive maintenance and diagnostics preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required; certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance: fluids, lubrication, inspections.
• Repair or replace faulty parts and fix leaks.
• Schedule future maintenance sessions; keep logs of work.
• Inspect tires, brakes, engine, electrical systems; diagnose issues.
• Use shop equipment like scan tools, meters, lifts and A/C recovery machines.
• Provide safe, quality automotive service in a county fleet setting.
