Job summary

Oconee County is seeking a skilled Fleet Technician to maintain and repair county vehicles and equipment, from small engines to heavy diesel trucks. You will diagnose, repair, and overhaul major systems, follow technical manuals, and ensure safety and reliability.

The position requires ASE certification or progression toward credentials, CDL or ability to obtain within one year, and strong mathematics, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; or an equivalent combination.
• Ability to read technical manuals, charts, schematics, and diagrams.
• Ability to operate diagnostic computers and scanners.
• Ability to use torches, plasma cutters, and welding equipment.
• Strong mathematical skills and problem-solving ability.
• Good written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance such as tune-ups, oil changes, and parts replacement.
• Diagnose and repair vehicles and heavy equipment, including engine/transmission systems.
• Inspect equipment for OSHA/NFPA compliance and identify needed repairs.
• Provide emergency field service and on-call repairs as needed.
• Operate vehicles and test equipment; conduct road tests after repairs.
• Maintain records of work performed and parts used.
• Coordinate with dealers/vendors for alignments and service work.
• Disassemble, repair, rebuild, or replace components per manuals.
