Job summary

PBF Energy’s Martinez Refinery in California seeks a Fixed Equipment Engineer to provide technical oversight for fixed equipment and piping, ensuring integrity across operations. You’ll work with engineers and inspectors, applying API/ASME standards and managing equipment changes and MOCs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Pressure Equipment and Mechanical Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight for fixed equipment and piping integrity.
  • Support pressure relief, flare, and safety system analysis and sizing.
  • Perform Fitness for Service assessments and support MOCs for PEI.
  • Coordinate with inspectors, engineers, and vendors during turnarounds.
  • Ensure in-service welding, hot tapping, and line stopping follow codes.

Job description

Fixed Equipment Engineer PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating, through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities. We have an opportunity at our Martinez Refinery in California and are seeking a talented Fixed Equipment Engineer to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy. The Fixed Equipment Engineer reports to the Fixed and Rotating Equipment Manager and provides technical oversight and engineering for their assigned production and operations units. They work with a team of engineers and inspectors to provide integrity assurance for fixed equipment and piping. They support integration of Shared Stewardship of Assets for Pressure Equipment Integrity across entire organization and help others in the organization understand their role in maintaining equipment integrity as related to Pressure Equipment Engineering and proper design and maintenance of pressure equipment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Giving technical input to the area Inspector on technical aspects during the scope development stage including repair or alteration plans for pressure vessels.
  • Reviewing and specifying permanent and temporary repairs, calculation of renewal thicknesses and the assessment of remaining life for all tanks, pressure equipment and piping.
  • Providing technical support for relief, flare, detonation arrestors, and other safety systems including: Completing calculations to size relief devices Reviewing installation, inspection, and servicing requirements to ensure compliance with applicable standards Reviewing and approving alternate relief protection assessments Supporting the PRD Servicing Work Process, including specification sheet review and updates Reviewing safeguarding analyses Performing Level 1 and 2 Fitness for Service (FFS) assessments based on site procedures and API inspection codes (510, 570, 653) including Fitness for Service Evaluation per API-579.
  • Overseeing Level 3 FFS assessments completed by third parties.
  • Ensuring in-service welding, hot tapping, and line stopping requirements are performed in accordance with Code, Corporate and site procedures.
  • Completing process piping and tubing design; giving technical guidance and approval on fabrication, inspection, repair, alteration, rerating, testing requirements, and pipe stress analysis in accordance with ASME, API, and Martinez Refining standards.
  • Performing technical reviews for pressure equipment change MOCs and serving as the Responsible Person for PEI driven MOCs.
  • Ensuring that all fixed equipment, and materials used to fabricate fixed equipment, are purchased and/or installed from vendors, suppliers, and contractors that are technically approved.
  • Providing Pressure Equipment Engineering support to turnaround events on technical issues as needed.
  • Supporting Pressure Equipment Inspectors and Supervisors on RBI Reassessments and Revalidations, Interval Extension Analysis, and Turnaround work scope optimization, analysis, and critiques.
  • Participating in PHA studies and incident/root cause investigations; coordinating support from the Materials/Corrosion Engineer and other technical resources.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 years of experience in the fields of Pressure Equipment and Mechanical Engineering
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in refinery or petrochemical plant processes
  • Knowledge of industry design standards and best practices
  • Knowledge of PV Elite, Caesar-II and AutoCad

The salary range for this position is $97,322.86 - $164,308.72. The compensation range listed in this posting is in compliance with applicable state law. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, job‑related skills and internal peer equity will be considered in determining the selected candidate’s compensation.
