Job summary

Lake Seminole Square in Des Moines, IA is seeking an experienced accounting professional to own operational execution of assigned workstreams, including month-, quarter-, and year-end close across multiple communities.

You will review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules, drive process improvements, and coach junior accountants while ensuring accuracy, compliance with GAAP, and timely deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.
• 4-6 years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of complex reconciliations and close deliverables.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, internal controls, and audit-ready documentation.
• Experience with contract accounting, fixed assets, capital projects, or construction-in-progress strongly preferred.
• Advanced Excel and accounting system skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead accounting workstreams and manage multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Own operational execution of assigned accounting workstreams and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
• Coordinate close activities (month-end, quarter-end, year-end) across multiple communities.
• Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, resident refunds, and supporting workpapers.
• Maintain SOPs and ensure consistent execution and controls.
• Provide day-to-day guidance to Accountants and Senior Accountants; coach and cross-train.
• Collaborate across departments (AP, Core Accounting, IT) and drive process improvements.
