Job summary

Meyer Utility Structures in Lancaster, SC, an Arcosa subsidiary, seeks a Lead Fitter/Welder to steer a weld team, lay out parts from blueprints, and join metals with Flux Core processes. You’ll inspect finished work and perform maintenance on equipment.

The role requires at least four years of welding experience, certification for horizontal/vertical welds, and ability for multi-pass and full-penetration welds. Safe work habits and accurate record-keeping are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of welding experience.
• Flux Core welding experience required.
• Certified to perform horizontal and vertical welds.
• Ability to perform multi-pass welds and C welds.
• Maintain 90% pass rate on UT inspection.
• Able to read blueprints and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of welders.

Meyer Utility Structures, an Arcosa subsidiary, is hiring Lead Fitters/Welders for our plant in Lancaster, SC. As a Lead Fitter/Welder, you’ll use jigs/holding fixtures to lay out pieces to be welded according to blueprints, layouts, schematics, or work orders. You’ll then use manual/semi-automatic/automatic welding equipment to join, surface, fabricate, and repair parts of metal or other weldable materials. The Lead Fitter/Welder also inspects completed work for conformance to specifications and performs minor maintenance on equipment.

What you’ll do:

• Apply appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, and repair parts of metal or other weldable materials according to layouts, work orders, blueprints, schematics, and sketches using manual, automatic welding and/or semi-automatic welding equipment

• Perform full penetration (such as slip joint) welds to weld ends to poles or channels
• Operate grinding equipment
• May train lower levels
• May lay out and mark weld points on parts or subassemblies
• May position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools
• May inspect completed work for conformance to specifications
• Maintain quality and efficiency
• Observe all standard safety practices
• Maintain and complete all required records
• Perform other duties as assigned

What you’ll need:

• Minimum of 4 years of experience
• Flux Core experience
• Certified to perform horizontal and vertical welds
• Ability to perform multi-pass welds
• Ability to perform "C" (circumferential) welds
• Qualify as a flat welder
• Ability to maintain 90% pass rate on UT inspection
• Basic understanding of Oxy Fuel/Plasma burning
• Basic understanding of Carbon Arcing
• Ability to maintain good attendance
