Job summary

NABRICO Marine Products in Caruthersville, MO is seeking a Safety Oriented Lead Fitter/Welder to lay out, fit and weld metal parts for barges in our busy plant. You will read blueprints, align parts, and prepare for welding as part of a skilled team.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years of structural fitter experience, blueprint literacy, and the ability to pass a six-part tack welding test using an oxy-fuel torch. Willingness to overtime and work at heights is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of structural fitter experience.
• Ability to work with a tape measure and determine center point.
• Proficiency in reading blueprints and schematics.
• All fitters must pass a tack welding test using oxy-fuel equipment.
• Able to perform basic math calculations including fractions.
• Comfort with working at heights and in confined spaces.
• Must wear required PPE including respirator.
• Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required.

NABRICO Marine Products is searching for a Safety Oriented Lead Fitter/Welder in our Caruthersville, Missouri barge manufacturing plant. As a Lead Fitter/Welder at NABRICO Marine Products, you will lay out, position, align, and fit together fabricated parts of metal according to layouts, work orders, blueprints, schematics, and sketches in preparation for welding. You will also inspect tack-welds completed by the assigned welder, or in some cases their own tack welding work, for conformance to specifications. Our assemblers get to see what they have built on waterways across the country.

What you will do:

• Read blueprints or other specifications
• May operate overhead crane
• Measure to specifications
• Identify parts for assembly in proper order
• Cut and wash with torch (Oxy Fuel)
• Tack weld pieces together

What you will need:

• Minimum of 4 years of structural fitter experience
• Ability to work with a tape measure and determine center point
• Able to perform basic math calculations using fractions; carpenter's math
• Proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints
• All Fitters have to pass a tack welding test; six-part practical test using an oxy-fuel cutting torch
• May require working above ground
• Must be able to climb ladders or stairs to reach objects; comfortable with heights
• May require working in narrow or confined work spaces for extended periods of time
• May require extensive kneeling, bending, walking and/or standing for long periods of time
• Must be able to perform fitting and welding work while wearing all required personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a filtering face piece and /or tight fitting respirator
• Willing to work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed
