Job summary

Alamo Structural Steel, LLC is seeking a Fitter/Welder in Texas to fabricate a wide range of metal projects. Duties include cutting, welding, and assembling parts using flame-cutting and hand-welding equipment, with emphasis on safety and precision.

The role requires MIG welding proficiency, ability to read blueprints, and the capacity to pass a welding test. Day or night shifts are available, with shift differential for nights; full-time employment includes eligibility for additional benefits.

Qualifications

  • MIG welding proficiency and ability to pass a welding test.
  • Knowledge of blueprints and weld symbols.
  • Experience in structural welding is preferred.
  • Able to read and interpret layouts.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, assemble, and tack weld parts and surfaces.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in good condition.
  • Weld components using MIG/TIG as required.
  • Cut and scarf using oxy-acetylene torch.
  • Align parts per specs using jigs and tools.
  • Disassemble and reconfigure weld setups as needed.

Job Description

As a Fitter/Welder, you will be responsible for fabricating a wide range of miscellaneous metal projects. This includes cutting and welding metal pieces and products using flame-cutting and hand-welding equipment.

Minimum Starting Salary:$22.00 - $30.00 per hour - depending on experience (Full-time Alamo employees are eligible for shift differential pay)

Shifts Available:
Day Shift:Monday - Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm
Nights:Monday - Thursday 3:0pm to 1:30am - Plus a $2.00 shift differential

  • Prepare, assemble, and tack weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
  • Maintain, organize, and keep work area and equipment in operating condition.
  • Hand-weld and/or flame-cut equipment to join metal components.
  • Cut and scarf using an oxy-acetylene torch.
  • Structural welding using FCAW & SMAW.
  • Align and fit parts according to specifications using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
  • Properly assemble and disassemble weld setups.
  • Remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.
  • Reshape metal workpieces to establish specifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of metal and basic shop fabrication equipment.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in MIG welding with the ability to pass a welding test.
  • Knowledge of TIG welding is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to withstand pressure and adapt to change.
  • Ability to multi-task while meeting strict deadlines.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Experience in a structural welding environment is preferred
  • Ability to pass a Fillet Weld Test.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
