Core Responsibilities

1. Follow welding procedures (AWS, AISC).
2. Weld in all positions, on ground level, above ground, and below ground.
3. Prepare materials for welding through chipping, peening, and grinding.
4. Weld structural materials such as plates, sheets, girders, tanks, etc., including uncommon metals under close tolerances.
5. Straighten materials via heat or flame.
6. Perform gouging and scarfing as needed.
7. Pass welding tests per AWS D1.1 standards.
8. Read instructions, prints, sketches, and work orders.
9. Interpret blueprints and plan fitting operations.
10. Handle and assemble materials, ensuring proper relationships and fastening.
11. Lay out work lines, fit jigs, and check connections.
12. Ensure work conforms to drawings and notes.
13. Clean materials and perform minor layout tasks.
14. Burn, tack weld, cope, bevel, and straighten materials.
15. Mark identification spots and move materials and equipment as needed.
16. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
17. Follow all safety rules and PPE requirements.

Education/Training/Work Experience

High school diploma or GED, plus 12 months of stable work experience. Must pass required weld and fitter tests.

Certificates & Licenses

• Equipment skills: Use of hand tools and welding equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and blueprints.
• Mathematical skills for measurement conversions.
• Reasoning skills for problem-solving and instructions.
• Certification in AWS D1.1 weld test.
