Job summary

Haskell is seeking a skilled structural steel fitter/fabricator to layout, fit-up, and assemble steel components according to shop drawings and specifications. The role emphasizes precise measurement, welding preparation, and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities include interpreting drawings, setting up equipment, performing tack welding, bolting/welding connections, and inspecting assemblies for tolerances.

Qualifications

  • Repairs and modifies assemblies by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, fitting, and reassembling parts using cutting equipment, straightening presses, hand tools, and fabrication equipment.
  • Measure and verify dimensions to ensure assemblies meet drawing requirements and established tolerances.
  • Utilize measuring tools, layout tools, squares, levels, and other fabrication equipment to perform fitting activities.
  • Inspect assemblies for dimensional accuracy, fit - up quality, orientation, and compliance with fabrication drawings.
  • Operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment safely when properly trained and authorized.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Travel as required.
  • Other duties which may be assigned as needed.

Scope of Position

Responsible for the lay out , fit- up, and assembly of structural steel and miscellaneous metal components and assemblies in accordance with shop drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits structural steel components and assemblies in accordance with fabrication drawings and specifications. Read and interpret shop drawings, fabrication details, assembly drawings, and weld symbols to accurately layout and fit structural steel assemblies.
  • Sets up equipment and performs tack welding activities required to assemble and secure components for final welding.

Education & Years of Experience

Four years experience in a rele vent field preferabl y structural steel fabrication or fitting experience preferred.

Qualifications
  • Ability to evaluate dimensions, tolerances, fit - up requirements, and fabrication quality using measurable standards.
  • Ability to work within established dimensional tolerances and quality standards.
  • Ability to interpret shop drawings and visualize two - dimensional drawings as completed three - dimensional assemblies.
  • Ability to identify discrepancies in drawings, dimensions, fit - up, orientation, and fabricated assemblies.
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity and ability to safely utilize fabrication tools, measuring devices, and fitting equipment.
Job Description

  • Able to work both indoors and outdoors. Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, overhead cranes, welding operations, noise, heat, dust, machinery, and other conditions typical of a structural steel fabrication environment when proper safety proce dures are not followed.

  • Ability to use measuring devices, layout tools, squares, levels, and other fabrication tools to accurately fit structural steel assemblies.
  • Ability to verify dimensions and maintain required fabrication tolerances.
  • Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment when properly trained and authorized.
  • Certification in Welding 3G preferred.
  • Certification in Tack Welding required.

New employees begin as NPCs (temporary employees) for an initial 45-day period, with the opportunity to transition to PCE (permanent employee) status based on successful performance during that period.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, team members may be required to visit alternate locations, and therefore must have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to do so. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 - 50 pounds. Requires good hand - eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The team member is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
