Job summary

Veritas Steel LLC in Palatka, FL seeks a 2nd shift Fitter to join our bridge fabrication team. You will perform grinding and related fitting tasks, read blueprints, and help deliver high-quality components under safety guidelines.

Position offers a base wage of $19.45 per hour with a $1.20 shift differential. Expect a 48-hour work week, Monday-Thursday hours, and overtime after 50 hours. Strong teamwork and safety focus are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.

Responsibilities

• Operate as a fitter at Veritas Steel in Palatka, performing grinding and related tasks.
• Read and interpret blueprints and specifications for fitting operations.
• Drill, install high-strength bolts, and grind steel components.
• Produce fillet and groove welds using SMAW, SAW, FCAW.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and adhere to safety policies.
• Participate in continual improvement activities.

Fitters employed at Veritas Steel's Palatka location are responsible for performing all fitting operations, primarily including grinding operations; along with repairs and miscellaneous tasks assigned. They must be able to meet high production demands promptly and complete high-quality work with expertise. Fitters must also adhere to company policies to ensure a safe working environment.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

• By using proper safety, building some of the most iconic bridge projects in America
• Work alongside and learn from some of the most skilled steel fitters in the country
• Drill, install high-strength bolts, and grind steel components
• Produce fillet and groove welds using the SMAW, SAW, and FCAW processes
• Maintain a clean, organized work area
• Participate in continual improvement activities
• Read and interpret blueprints

2nd Shift starting at $19.45!

• Plus $1.20 shift differential
• 48 Hour Work Week
• Monday-Thursday 5 PM- 5 AM
• Double Time After 50 hrs Worked!

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• High School diploma or GED
• Must be able to read, write, and comprehend English
• Need to be able to read metric tapes
• Flexibility is necessary to work with others in a variety of circumstances and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods
• Must be able to work with a wide variety of individuals in the workplace
• Employee must be able to adapt to changing work priorities, communicate with diverse groups, meet deadlines and schedules, work as part of a team, and work with constant interruptions during the workday
• Employee must be able to deal effectively with times pressures, long hours, rapidly changing priorities, and stress

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift 40 pounds and carry 30 pounds
• Must be able to push /move objects up to 50 pounds of force
• Pulling requirements up to 122 pounds of force
• Necessary to stand, walk, stoop, and kneel up to 99% of the shift
• Must have a good range of motion when reaching forward, shoulder to overhead, and bending
• Agile fingers and thumbs on both hands

Working Conditions

• Work is performed indoors in a large warehouse or outside in all weather conditions
• There is regular exposure to dirt, dust, paint fumes, noise, moving equipment, heavy steel & other possible hazardous conditions
• Safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, and steel-toed boots are required; a respirator is required for specific operations
