Job summary

The City of Birmingham Fire Department is seeking Fitness Instructors to develop health, fitness, and wellness programs for employees. They design physical ability training/testing programs, administer fitness and rehabilitation programs, and instruct group classes.

Staff monitor attendees to assess safety and effectiveness of programs. Instructors may work in fitness and recreation facilities with occasional offsite visits, and will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to promote

Qualifications

• CPR and AED certification required.
• First Aid certification required.
• Driver's license required.
• Completed twelve hours of college coursework in Physical Education, Health Promotions, Health Education, Exercise Science, or Kinesiology.
• Option A or B qualifications may apply depending on facility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop health, fitness and wellness programs for city employees and the community.
• Administer fitness and rehabilitative programs; lead group classes and monitor attendees for safety.
• Design physical ability training/testing programs for Fire and Police Recruits.
• Assess program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
• Communicate with staff, employees, and the public about available services.
• Assist with daily fitness center operations, maintenance and inventory.
