Job summary

The Birmingham Fire Department is seeking Fitness Instructors to develop health, fitness, and wellness programs for employees and the community. Design physical ability tests, administer fitness and rehabilitation programs, and lead group classes while monitoring attendees for safety and effectiveness.

Most work occurs within fitness and recreation facilities, with occasional visits to offsite locations. The position includes competitive benefits as part of city employment.

Qualifications

• Driver's license and CPR/AED/First Aid certifications are required.
• Experience in organizing fitness activities and conducting field tests is expected.
• Certification in Personal Training or Group Exercise may be required within six months depending on facility.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing health, fitness and wellness programs for employees and community.
• Instruct group classes and monitor attendees to ensure safe, effective implementation.
• Design and administer physical ability training/testing for recruits to enhance performance.
• Assess program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
• Communicate with staff, the public, and vendors about programs and services.
• Support daily Fitness Center operations, including administrative and inventory tasks.
