Pay Transparency: $17-$19 hour admin rate ($25-$30/hour for Personal Trainer/GroupEx Rate; DOE and Certifications)
Role and Responsibilities
Group Fitness Instructors are expected to teach safe and effective classes for our members and are required to maintain educational standards commensurate with Active Wellness quality.
The Personal Trainer is responsible for managing the fitness floor, being responsive to members and guests by offering assistance, and educating Active Wellness members on the safe and correct use of cardio and weight training equipment. This person also performs assessments, provides package prescriptions, answers fitness, and wellness-related questions, and sells personal training packages.
Specific Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Ability to teach various forms of group fitness classes for general, and active aging populations, such as Yoga, Pilates Mat, cardio and strength-based classes, Barre, core classes, Zumba
- Assist members in using safe and effective exercise form during their Workouts
- Support, teach, and encourage members to meet their fitness goals
- Attend department meetings and continuing education classes to keep certifications current
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly fitness environment, picking up towels, water bottles, etc.
- Ability to conduct classes and activities.
- Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, squatting and lifting.

- Schedule and conduct new member onboarding sessions
- Assist with new member outreach and follow-up with low users
- Assist members in using safe and effective exercise forms during their workouts
- Maintain a clean, safe and orderly fitness floor, racking weights. Includes picking up loose towels, water bottles, magazines, cleaning equipment, etc.
- Perform fitness assessments (movement and posture assessments, blood pressure checks, body composition tests) as requested by members
- Support, teach, and encourage members to meet his/her fitness goals
- Assist in the development and implementation of new fitness programs/classes
- Ability to take the responsibility for the health and safety of others.
- Administer emergency care to members and guests in need of assistance
- Work as a TEAM with all other departments
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Other Functions
- Be knowledgeable about all programs and activities offered throughout the center.
- Promote center services and activities
- Assist with cleanliness and upkeep of group fitness equipment
- Assist with keeping the center well stocked and clean
- Attend Active Wellness site meetings and trainings
- Handle injury and illness and security incident reporting
Qualifications
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Communication skills, customer service oriented
- Operational knowledge of resistance training equipment and proper form
- Knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics
- Knowledge of injury prevention and basic rehabilitation
- Knowledge of basic movement and posture assessments and body composition assessments
- Ability to calculate target heart rate
- Basic knowledge of nutrition
- HS Diploman
- Minimum one (1) NCCA or NBFE accredited certification
- Previous health club personal training experience is a plus.
- Must be detail-oriented, organized, and highly responsive with a commitment to customer service
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Basic computer skills, customer service skills, results-oriented, ability to multitask, and commitment to the fitness industry
- AED/CPR/First Aid Certified
- National Personal Training Certification(s) required (see approved Certification, Licenses, and Permits list) as well as modality-specific certifications as required by role (if applicable)
- Proof of citizenship or legal status
Physical and Working Conditions
- Ability to take the responsibility for the health and safety of others
- Ability to stand for several hours in the same shift; ability to lift 25 lbs

- Must follow OSHA and Active Wellness safety standards
