Job summary

Northwestern Medicine Huntley Health & Fitness Center invites applications for a Fitness Manager. This full-time role leads the Fitness, Aquatic, Group Exercise and Medical Integration departments, delivering exceptional member experiences and profitable services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in health-related, exercise science, kinesiology, or physical education; Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in fitness/wellness.
• Nationally recognized NCCA accredited certification required.
• CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire (provided by Power Wellness).
• ACSM clinical exercise certification highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and supervision to supervisors, coordinators and associates in all managed departments.
• Assist Fitness Center Director with daily center operations and provide leadership in the absence of the Center Director.
• Assist with member retention by encouraging the development of member retention programs.
• Ensure high engagement with Medical Advisory Committee and programs and safety protocols.
• Oversee compliance with physician approvals and clearance procedures, testing and medically-integrated programs.
• Review fitness programs based on attendance, cost-effectiveness and member interest.
• Coordinate safety drills and incident reports per Power Wellness standards.
• Coordinate purchasing of new fitness equipment and stay current with industry trends.
• Responsible for upkeep of all fitness equipment including maintenance and servicing.
• Coordinate student internship programs to comply with Power Wellness standards.
• Responsible for hiring and training all Fitness Department staff.
• Assist with development of fitness department operating and capital budgets.
• Work Manager on Duty shifts as assigned.

Join our team of full time and part time staff at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Health & Fitness Center. Our facility is managed by Power Wellness Management, a company that specializes in managing state-of-the-art medically integrated health and fitness centers.

The Fitness Manager is responsible for providing leadership and supervision to the Fitness, Aquatic, Group Exercise and Medical Integration departments. He/she ensures that all departments are delivering an exceptional member experience while providing the highest level of customer service to members, guests and prospects of the facility. The Fitness Manager will oversee all programming and ensure that services offered are profitable and meet the varying needs of members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. 1. Provide leadership and supervision to supervisors, coordinators and associates in all managed departments.
2. 2. Assist Fitness Center Director with daily center operations and provide leadership in the absence of the Center Director.
3. 3. Assist with member retention by encouraging the development of member retention programs on a consistent basis.
4. 4. Ensure there is a high level of engagement between the Medical Advisory Committee and the center’s programs, services and safety protocols.
5. 5. Oversee and ensure compliance with all physician approval and clearance procedures, testing procedures and medically-integrated programs.
6. 6. Review and evaluate fitness programs and services based on attendance, cost-effectiveness and member interest.
7. 7. Coordinate and ensure that all mock codes, safety drills and monthly safety audits are performed in compliance with Power Wellness standards and that all incident reports are followed up with appropriately.
8. 8. Make recommendations for purchasing new fitness equipment as needed and stay current with industry trends.
9. 9. Responsible for the upkeep of all fitness equipment to include preventative maintenance, servicing, and re-upholstering.
10. 10. Coordinate student internship programs to comply with Power Wellness standards and allow for a positive learning experience to qualified graduate and undergraduate students.
11. 11. Responsible for hiring and training all Fitness Department staff.
12. 12. Assist with development of fitness department operating and capital budgets annually.
13. 13. Work Manager on Duty shifts as assigned.
14. 14. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a 4 year college or university in a health-related, exercise science, kinesiology, or physical education major required. Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in the fitness/wellness industry required, preferably in a fitness facility.
• Nationally recognized NCCA accredited certification required.
• ACSM clinical exercise certification highly desirable.
• CPR/AED certification required within 90 days of hire (provided by Power Wellness)
• Must possess excellent inter-personal and communication skills, and the ability to work with members in a positive, service based manner.
• Ability to multi-task and maintain a controlled and professional demeanor with a high level of organizational skills and efficiency.
• Proficient computer skills.
