Job summary

Power Wellness Huntley Health & Fitness Center is seeking a part-time Fitness Specialist to provide professional fitness services with top-tier customer service to members and guests. The role includes supervision on the fitness floor, basic instruction, health screening, scheduling assessments, and promoting wellness services.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a health-related field, CPR/AED within 90 days, and a nationally recognized certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide fitness floor supervision and basic exercise instruction for members and guests.
• Screen health history information and coordinate medical clearance as applicable.
• Schedule and perform fitness assessments, orientations and follow-up appointments per protocols.
• Explain fitness assessment results and provide exercise guidelines and recommendations.
• Respond to medical emergencies as first responder and document incidents.
• Promote and sell ancillary services including personal training and wellness programs.
• Maintain knowledge of center events and activities.
• Perform facility rounds and monitor pool, locker rooms and fitness areas.
• Open and close center as scheduled; adjust for holidays and weekends.
• Maintain cleanliness and report equipment maintenance needs.
• May conduct strength and conditioning classes within certification scope.

Position Title: Fitness Specialist
Location: Northwestern Medicine Huntley Health & Fitness Center
Type: Part Time

Hourly Rate: $24.00 - $34.00

The Fitness Specialist is responsible for providing professional fitness services with the highest level of customer service to members and guests of the center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide fitness floor supervision and basic exercise instruction for members, guests and medically integrated program participants.
• Screen health history information and coordinate processes for the receipt of medical clearance as applicable.
• Schedule and perform all appointments for fitness assessments, orientations and follow up appointments complying with established protocols.
• Deliver and explain fitness assessment results with the provision of exercise guidelines and program recommendations to members. Discuss and make recommendations related to their individual goals.
• Arrive as first responder to all medical emergencies with urgency, bringing AED and additional first aid supplies. Complete incident report for all medical emergencies.
• Promote and effectively sell all ancillary services including, but not limited to personal training, medically integrated programs, wellness coaching and nutrition services.
• Maintain knowledge of all events and activities within the center.
• Perform facility rounds every 30-60 minutes including monitoring of all pool, locker rooms and fitness related areas.
• Perform opening and closing procedures on weekdays, weekends and holidays as scheduled.
• Maintain cleanliness of fitness areas and equipment, inspect equipment and upholstery and report any required maintenance or repair, removing the equipment from service until maintenance is completed.
• May conduct strength and conditioning group fitness classes with a current NCCA accredited certification. The class must not be a licensed format outside of the scope of their certification (Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, Les Mills, MOSSA, BARRE, Aqua, Cycle, etc).
• Ability to lift 45 pounds.
• The ability to be flexible and accommodating as it relates to center hours, work schedules and scheduling appointments for prospects and members.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a 4 year college or university in a health-related, exercise science, kinesiology, or physical education major required.
• Prior part time work experience or part time internship in the fitness industry preferred.
• CPR/AED certification required within 90 days of hire (Provided by Power Wellness)
• Nationally recognized NCCA accredited certification preferred.
• Must possess excellent inter-personal and communication skills, and the ability to work with members in a positive, service based manner.
• Ability to multi-task and maintain a controlled and professional demeanor.
• Proficient computer skills.
