Candidates must hold current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, a credible fitness certification, a Bachelor’s degree, and be able to lift 50 lbs. Evening and weekend work is required; valid driver’s license is needed.

  • Maintain knowledge of fitness, anatomy, kinesiology and physiology as related to movement.
  • Provide engaging instruction and motivation for healthy living.
  • Assist with maintaining fitness equipment.
  • Operate required software as needed by the Fitness Department.
  • Understand and enforce University Recreation policies and guidelines.
  • Attend required trainings and develop professional relationships with participants.

The Fitness Team within the Duke Recreation and Physical Education department is looking for knowledgeable, energetic, and certified Fitness Instructors. All instructors are required to hold a current Certification from a respected and validated certifying organization. Current CPR and First Aid Certifications are Also Required. Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Certification from a respected and validated certifying organization.
  • Current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification (or ability to obtain within first 30-days).
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years of experience working in group fitness settings teaching classes.
  • Experience working with a variety of ages, wellness goals and physical conditions in a group fitness setting.
Other Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Current Fitness Instructor Certification.

This position is onsite. The work is performed on-site on Duke University’s East Campus in the Brodie Recreation Center or Duke University’s West Campus in the Wilson Recreation Center.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $23.26 to USD $36.73.
