Job summary

Duke University’s Faculty Club seeks a Personal Trainer to design and deliver personalized fitness programs for members one-on-one, ensuring safe use of cardio, resistance, and free weight equipment. The role emphasizes exceptional service, inclusivity, and a welcoming environment.

Under the Fitness-Wellness Coordinator, you will create tailored workouts based on members' goals and support events and wellness initiatives across the club.

Under general direction from the Fitness/Wellness Coordinator, Duke Faculty Club Personal Trainers are responsible for developing and implementing individualized fitness programming for Duke Faculty Club members on a one-on-one basis.

What You'll Do
  • Educate members and enforce policies regarding safe and proper use of equipment and facilities.
  • Familiarize members with the safe and effective use of all cardiovascular, resistance, and free weight equipment.
  • Develop, document, demonstrate and implement one-on-one workout programs that match the needs and goals of members.
  • Gather and maintain information on member's fitness expectations and provide guidance for reaching those goals.
  • Assist the Duke Faculty Club management staff during club special events and recreational programming as required.
  • Work to create a welcoming, vibrant, and all-inclusive environment that promotes safety, quality customer service, and excellence.
Education & Training
  • Extensive knowledge of exercise physiology and kinesiology, safe training procedures, exercise program implementation, and the proper use of cardiovascular, resistance, free weight, and other related fitness equipment.
  • Current certification in personal training by ACSM, NSCA, ACE, NASM or other nationally recognized organization.
  • Current certification in CPR/AED/First Aid through American Heart Association or American Red Cross only. (Certification must be obtained within 30 days of hiring)
Experience
  • Previous experience in supervising and instructing individuals in a fitness environment preferred.
  • Previous experience with a wide range of individuals preferred.
Skills & Requirements
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, high levels of energy, enthusiasm and motivation, maturity, and the ability to collaborate effectively with members and other professional staff.
  • Requires a consistent availability to work at various times of day, days of the week and weekends.

  • Certifications: American Red Cross CPR/AED; Group exercise certification from a credible organization or Personal training certificationfrom a credible organization or Physical Education degree

Anticipated Pay Range

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $23.26 to USD $36.73. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
