Job summary

City of Mountlake Terrace seeks an instructor to lead fitness classes at the Recreation Pavilion, covering yoga, dance fitness, barre, kickboxing and more based on expertise. You will plan and deliver engaging sessions, assess participants, and ensure a safe, inclusive environment.

As a non-represented, hourly role, you will maintain equipment, support program logistics, respond to emergencies, and collaborate with the Dance & Fitness Programmer to support the community’s wellness goals.

Qualifications

• College degree or coursework in exercise science, kinesiology, recreation, physical education, dance, health and wellness, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent education, training, certification, or professional experience may be considered.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check.
• Must provide proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver instruction appropriate to the assigned fitness discipline, including stretching, drills, and movement sequences.
• Assess participants’ skills and modify instruction to ensure safe, engaging, inclusive learning.
• Motivate and encourage participants through positive, respectful communication.
• Inspect, sanitize, and store fitness equipment; report damaged or missing equipment to the supervisor.
• Provide courteous customer service to Pavilion patrons and support program logistics with the Dance & Fitness Programmer.
