Qualifications

• PhD degree in a relevant field with emphasis in statistics, mathematics, fisheries, ecology, or natural sciences is required.
• Six or more years of related experience, including familiarity with NOAA fisheries West Coast region.
• Strong written and verbal communication; track record of reports and peer‑reviewed articles.
• Extensive experience in statistical modeling and data analysis using R; familiarity with Stan and JAGS; open science concepts.
• Experience manipulating large environmental datasets in a Linux/shell environment; interfacing with C/C++ code.

Responsibilities

• Provide statistical analysis to inform management decisions for NOAA Fisheries.
• Statistically analyze spatial and temporal variability in salmon migrations and survival.
• Develop probabilistic models representing ecological processes using modern statistical methods.
• Provide statistical support for study design and analysis.
• Organize and curate ecological datasets for mark-recapture modeling needs.
• Document and share reproducible research workflows and protocols.
• Publish reports and present results at regional and national meetings.
• Assist with field data collection as needed in West Coast regions.
