Job summary

CSS, Inc. in Miami, FL seeks a Fisheries Monitoring Assistant to support the NOAA SEFSC Fisheries Statistics Division. You will distribute logbooks, receive and organize forms, and handle inquiries by phone, while performing data entry and validation tasks.

Qualifications

• BS Degree in Marine Science or a related field; OR high school diploma plus three years of relevant experience.
• Proficient with common word processing, database, statistical, and graphics software.
• Ability to pass a National Agency Check (NACI) and maintain it throughout employment.
• Experience collecting catch and effort information from commercial fishers preferred.

Responsibilities

• Annually distribute logbooks via US mail to permit holders.
• Travel locally to the post office to pick up incoming logbooks.
• Process incoming logbooks: stamp as received, organize the forms and assign schedule numbers.
• Monitor a phone line each business day that is used for permit holders who have questions about the logbook process.
• Mail wreckfish logbook and dealer reporting forms to permit holders as applicable.
• Perform data entry of various logbook and dealer reporting forms.
• Perform validation of various logbook and dealer reporting forms.
• Participate in outreach events such as Open Houses, Youth/Career Fairs, etc. in order to explain logbook program goals and methods to the public
