Responsibilities and Job Summary:

The Fish Handler/ Warehouse Worker I is responsible for checking, packing, and preparing items for shipment. Duties include receiving, unpacking, verifying, grading, checking product quality, cleaning product, repacking, loading, and shipping items.

  • Move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, or containers, by hand or using trucks, tractors, or other equipment.
  • Sort cargo before loading and unloading.
  • Attach identifying tags to containers or mark them with identifying information.
  • Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs.
  • Stack cargo in locations such as loading docks as directed, using pallets.
  • Record numbers of units handled or moved, using daily production sheets or work tickets.
  • Install protective devices, such as bracing, padding, or strapping, to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported.
  • Position boxes and pallets, vats, or containers so they can be loaded.
  • Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure that inventory is protected.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Good organization skills – prioritize work assignments and manage work time.
  • Basic skills in the use of computers and software programs.
  • Must be a self-starter and motivated to work hard to be successful.
  • One (1) year experience driving forklift (stand-up, sit-down, or both) is preferred.
  • One (1) year plus work-related knowledge, skills, or experience in a warehouse setting is preferred.
  • Must be punctual, on time, and dependable.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of equipment (forklifts and pallet jacks), policies, and procedures to promote effective safety and security of people and facilities.
  • Ability to lift and move products in a safe and timely manner.
  • Ability to exert physical force to lift or carry objects.
  • Ability to understand oral or written instructions to carry out and accomplish work assignments.
  • Working knowledge of the English language.

Physical demands: talk; hear; perform activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, such as kneeling, bending, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and moving materials; use hands and arms in reaching, handling, and manipulating objects or controls; running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving forklift; frequently lift and/or move up to 110 pounds.

Work environment: work in very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures; indoor work environment; moderate noise level.
