Job summary

The Montana Department of Environmental Quality, Water Quality Division, seeks a Fiscal Section Supervisor to lead day-to-day fiscal operations, including budgeting and contract oversight, across four bureaus that rely on state, federal and general funds.

The role reports to the Division Administrator, supervises two staff, and partners with Financial Services and the CFO to ensure alignment with agency financial processes.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of progressively responsible accounting or budgeting experience.
• Demonstrated experience in leading people, even if not formal supervisory roles.
• Experience in government accounting and budgeting is preferred (SABHRS/IBARS).
• Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day fiscal operations for the division, including budgeting and contract oversight.
• Support four bureaus with diverse funding sources (state special revenue, federal grants, general fund).
• Coordinate fiscal activities across the division and align with department-wide financial processes.
• Collaborate with division program leaders and the CFO to ensure fiscal integrity.
