Job summary

OneBlood in Tampa, FL is seeking a full-time laboratory support professional to perform routine unregulated tasks in the blood bank setting. The role includes early shift hours (5:00 AM to 1:30 PM) with rotating weekends and holidays, and potential weekend differential compensation.

Responsibilities include processing samples, preparing records, issuing blood components, maintaining inventory, and performing basic lab tests with attention to quality control.

Qualifications

• Ability to report to work during a disaster, public health emergency or other catastrophic event.
• Ability to organize work for timely completion
• Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Ability to read, write and speak English effectively
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
• Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Skill in operating office equipment.

Responsibilities

• Receives and processes samples to determine suitability
• Prepares and maintains laboratory records and blood shipping forms
• Issues blood and blood components
• Inspects blood units returned from hospitals and determines suitability
• Maintains component inventory to include recall and inventory lookback
• Centrifuges whole blood to produce various components
• Modifies blood components
• Performs unregulated laboratory testing such as pH and bacterial culturing
• Performs quality control as directed
• Participates in ongoing monitoring for each testing process to identify errors or potential problems and takes preventive corrective actions
• Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment, supplies and laboratory
• Utilizes computer system to obtain necessary data.
