Job summary

Boom is building its first M&P laboratory in Centennial, Colorado, and this role will define how world‑class lab work is done from day one. You’ll establish prep routes, calibration, and report templates while shaping test campaigns with engineers.

You’ll perform sectioning, polishing, etching, hardness testing, and microstructure analysis on nickel-based superalloys, titanium, and stainless steels, documenting results to form the permanent engineering record.

Qualifications

• 2+ years hands-on experience in a metallurgical or materials testing lab.
• Strong metallographic prep skills and microstructure evaluation on aerospace alloys.
• Hardness and microhardness testing proficiency.
• Experience reading engineering drawings, AMS/ASTM specs, and supplier certifications.
• Disciplined documentation in AS9100/NADCAP-type environments.
• Ability to work independently and communicate findings to engineers.

Responsibilities

• Prepare metallurgical samples across stainless steels, titanium, and nickel-based superalloys.
• Perform microstructural analysis on engine components.
• Run hardness and microhardness testing, furnace surveys, and chemical analyses.
• Support mechanical test operations alongside the lab engineer.
• Support failure and damage investigations on hardware from engine test cell.
• Evaluate supplier material and process certifications against specs.
• Write traceable, complete, and defensible reports.
• Help stand up the lab: procedures, calibration systems, input on equipment.
• Support allowables and material characterization programs as they spin up.
