Job description

Under the supervision of the Principal, the First Grade Teacher is responsible for fostering the intellectual, social, physical, and faith development of each child. The teacher supports the Catholic identity and mission of Cabrini Catholic School while providing a positive, engaging, and academically strong learning environment.
Responsibilities

Recognize and support the unique Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and teaching in a manner consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Demonstrate lived Gospel values through active participation in a faith community and model the teachings of Jesus through attitude, actions, and example.

Help build the school’s faith community by participating in and assisting with the planning of school religious and service activities.

Demonstrate effective planning skills by preparing lessons designed to achieve stated goals and objectives while incorporating school and Archdiocese of Detroit curriculum standards.

Demonstrate current and thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter and communicate effectively with students.

Organize classroom instruction and materials to maximize student learning and time on task.

Create an engaging classroom environment that encourages and motivates student learning.

Develop and utilize effective methods of assessment that align with curriculum objectives and the concepts and skills being taught.

Consistently monitor, evaluate, and communicate student progress.

Establish a consistent disciplinary approach that promotes self-direction, responsibility, and a positive self-image.

Set high standards for student behavior and effectively address inappropriate behavior.

Maintain a functional, welcoming, and positive learning environment.

Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to foster positive relationships with students, parents, and the greater school community.

Demonstrate professional responsibility by consistently following and enforcing school policies and regulations.

Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment in conduct, communication, dress, and behavior.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

Strong commitment to Catholic education and the ability to model behavior consistent with the mission of Cabrini Catholic School.

Excellent written and verbal communication, public speaking, and presentation skills.

Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

Self-motivated, organized, dependable, and able to work effectively as part of a team.

Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities simultaneously.

Proficiency in computer technology and related educational tools.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional discretion.

Flexibility in assessing needs, adjusting strategies, and adapting appropriately within a ministerial and educational environment.

Availability for occasional evening and weekend responsibilities as necessary.

Reliable transportation.

Ability to successfully complete all required criminal history and background checks.

Professional demeanor and appropriate personal appearance.

Ability to understand and abide by the Archdiocese of Detroit employment contract and all expectations applicable to Catholic school employees, including completion of the required Protecting God’s Children training.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Education from an accredited college or university.

Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education.
