Job summary

Tutor, a Watertown-based AI hardware company, is hiring its first Controller to own all accounting and close processes in a hands-on, builder role.

You will report to Head of Finance and collaborate with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Engineering, sitting near financing and lender work; own GL, AP, AR, payroll, internal controls and audits.

This player-coach role emphasizes building an elite, AI-native accounting function with meaningful equity and a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• 6–10 years of accounting and finance experience.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting.
• Experience in hardware/manufacturing or inventory-heavy business.
• Experience owning a monthly close end-to-end.
• Experience with external audits on the company side.
• Familiarity with depreciation, ASC 842, fixed assets.
• ERP and MES fluency.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting and month-end close activities.
• Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
• Develop and maintain internal controls, financial policies, and compliance procedures.
• Manage the audit process. Support and coordinate all internal and external audit activity.
• Lender reporting — covenant tracking and borrowing-base packages.
