Job Summary and Qualifications
Qualifications needed:
- The role of the OR Tech II is to assist the OR team in the care of patients, equipment, and supplies.
- The OR Tech II in 701 Surgery provides care for birth to pediatric, pediatric/child patients between 1 to 11 years of age; adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.
- The surgical technologist in the first scrub role handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
- The OR Tech II understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
- The OR Tech II has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly vigilant for maintenance of the sterile field.
- When in the second scrub role, assists the surgeon and/or surgical assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out tasks including sponging, suctioning, cutting suture, holding retractors, and manipulating the endoscopic camera.
- This role is distinct from that of the first scrub and surgical first assistant.
Additional qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Certified Operating Room Technicians (CORT)
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from NBSTSA preferred. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required upon hire
- Competent to perform as first scrub in three of the four following specialty areas: Robotic, Total Joints, Neuro/Spine, and Vascular Surgery
- Ability to independently first scrub ortho, neuro, traumas, vascular, and laparoscopic/Davinci cases
