Job summary

UPMC Williamsport Surgical Services seeks a Full-Time First Assist in General Surgery. The role involves 40 hours per week with days and rotation, including limited weekend/holiday coverage.

The STFA assists surgeons, helps set up the OR, positions and drapes patients, passes instruments, and helps achieve hemostasis and wound closure under the surgeon's direction. CST certification and completion of STFA program within 2 years are required.

Qualifications

• CST Certification required; completion of STFA program and certification within 2 years.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR is required.
• Act 31/33/34 with renewal; FBI clearance with renewal.
• 1 year of experience preferred; Associates Degree in Surgical Tech preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist during operating room procedures under surgeon direction; position, prep and drape patient.
• Provide homeostasis with electrocautery; clamp vessels and control bleeding.
• Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons and assistants; manage sutures and counts.
• Serve as an educator and resource on STFA activities and robotic surgery.
• Maintain regulatory, credentialing, and privileging requirements.
• Follow organizational policies and promote patient safety and quality.
