Job summary

Firelands Regional Medical Center in Bellevue, OH is seeking a First Assist (CSTFA or RNFA) for a full-time, on-site role in the Surgical Services department. The Surgical Assistant will support the operating surgeon in patient care and perform selected duties to maintain efficient case flow.

Qualifications include CSTFA or RN certification or active progression toward certification, with a minimum of four years in the OR and a strong attention to detail.

What You Will Do:

• Under the supervision of the Area Director of Surgical Services, the Surgical Assistant assists the operating surgeon in the care of patients in surgery and performs selected duties.
• Surgical Skills: Assists and scrubs in surgery. Maintains homeostasis, handling of tissue, and closing of wound layers as directed by the surgeon.
• Case Preparedness: Prepares for all cases by having the correct working equipment, instrumentation, and supplies.
• Facilitator: Facilitates timely starts by supervising or performing the opening of the case, positioning, catheter placement prepping and draping so that the schedule flows smoothly.
• Self-Education: Maintains and updates self-knowledge and skill of instruments, equipment, and specialty techniques.
• Surgical Environment: Provides a safe, professional and efficient environment for the surgical patient, maintaining asepsis and knowledge of anatomy and physiology as it relates to the surgical procedure.
• Maintains established company/hospital policies, procedures, directives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards appropriate to this position.
• Represents FRMC to the community. Acts as an ambassador and advocate for FRMC.

What You Will Need:

• CSTFA or RN. Candidate must have or be working toward being a graduate of an accredited program and certified as a Certified Surgical Technician Certified First Assist (CSTCFA) or a Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA).
• Minimum of four (4) years related experience in the Operating Room.
• Strong attention to details, high degree of persuasiveness.
