Job summary

The Colorado Department of Law seeks to launch and lead a new Employment Law Defense Unit. The First Assistant Attorney General will assemble the team, set culture, and define how state employment litigation is handled in state and federal courts.

The role blends hands-on litigation, strategy, client counseling, and system development. The successful candidate will oversee a small, collaborative team and partner with other units to address employment matters across state agencies and higher

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the Unit’s operating model for intake, triage, case assignment, staffing and escalation of risk.
• Build a strong, inclusive team culture grounded in collaboration, candid communication and professional excellence.
• Lead, supervise, coach, evaluate attorneys and staff with clear expectations and development plans.
• Coordinate with affiliated attorneys and leaders to staff matters strategically and share expertise.
• Make hiring recommendations and manage personnel and operational duties within the Unit.
