Lindsay Corporation is seeking a Firmware Engineer Intern to support embedded software and IoT solutions across its portfolio. The full-time summer internship is based at our global headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, offering hands-on experience with experienced engineers.

Interns will design, implement, and validate firmware for connected devices, gaining exposure to embedded systems, hardware integration, and product development lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior standing preferred.
  • Basic understanding of embedded systems and firmware development concepts.
  • Experience with or coursework involving C or C++ programming.
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, hardware interfaces, or electronics concepts is a plus.
  • Exposure to software development tools such as Git, Visual Studio Code, or similar development environments.
  • Interest in IoT devices, connected technologies, and embedded product development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment and eagerness to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of firmware and embedded software for IoT devices.
  • Support testing, debugging, and validation activities to ensure product performance, quality, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, software, and quality engineering teams on product development initiatives.
  • Participate in integrating hardware and software components within embedded systems.
  • Assist with documenting code, development processes, and technical solutions.
  • Help evaluate existing products and contribute to firmware enhancements and maintenance efforts.
  • Support troubleshooting activities by analyzing issues, identifying root causes, and verifying solutions.Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and team meetings to learn engineering best practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to development processes, testing methods, and product quality.
  • Present project results and recommendations to engineering leadership and team members at the conclusion of the internship.

Position Description

The Firmware Engineer Intern will support the development, testing, and maintenance of embedded software and IoT solutions across Lindsay's product portfolio. This internship offers hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers to design, implement, and validate firmware for connected devices. Interns will contribute to real-world projects while gaining exposure to embedded systems, hardware integration, communication protocols, and the full product development lifecycle.

This is a full-time summer internship based at our global headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. Interns will work on meaningful engineering projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and gain practical experience developing innovative technology solutions that support customers around the world.

Duties & Responsibilities

Experience through coursework, projects, clubs, or personal initiatives in one or more of the following areas is beneficial:

  • Digital communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, RS485)
  • Basic networking or IoT communication concepts
  • Embedded operating systems or RTOS fundamentals
  • Hardware debugging and test equipment
  • Wireless communication technologies
  • Python or other scripting languages
