Job summary

Invocon, Inc. in Texas seeks an Experienced Firmware Design Engineer to develop and refine firmware for aerospace, communications and sensing products. You’ll design, implement, and test firmware across multiple platforms and work with hardware and systems engineers to meet requirements.

The role emphasizes C/C++, ARM microcontrollers, OO design, and test automation. You’ll travel to customer sites as needed and contribute to sustaining existing firmware.

Qualifications

• 3+ years embedded firmware development experience.
• 3+ years C/C++ and/or assembly programming.
• 3+ years working through the full software lifecycle.
• 3+ years ARM, MicroBlaze, MSP430, PIC18, or CC111x is a plus.
• 2+ years OOP with C++ is highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Firmware design and implementation including build system and linker scripts.
• Firmware testing including unit, integration and end-to-end testing.
• Collaborate with system engineers to collect requirements and verify functionality.
• Maintain and support existing firmware products and travel to customer sites as needed.

Position Summary

Candidate will perform firmware design and coding associated with new and existing products. This will entail designing and configuring solutions for a variety of industries and applications including: communications, aerospace, wireless data acquisition, “smart” sensors, condition-based maintenance, RF Networking, and micro-miniature sensors.

Key Responsibilities

As a Firmware Design Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Firmware Design and Implementation including the creation and maintenance of the build system and tailoring of linker scripts.
• Firmware Testing including unit testing, integration testing, and end-to-end system testing.
• Interacting with the system engineers to collect requirements and verify functionality.
• Maintaining previously developed firmware products
• Maintaining and supporting firmware products that you developed which includes traveling to customer’s sites to operate or witness the use of the products.

As part of the job, you will gain experience in some or all of the following areas:

• Object-Oriented (OO) Design using C/C++ which includes applying OO principles to C.
• Assembly Language Programming
• Embedded development for System-On-a-Chip solutions and microcontrollers using a combination of C and Assembly
• Systems engineering including specifying hardware requirements for future products
• Test automation using Python to control test equipment and the device under test

Required Qualifications

All applicants will need to adequately demonstrate qualifications including the following:

• 3+ years of experience developing embedded firmware
• 3+ years of experience programming using C/C++ and/or assembly language
• 3+ years of experience with supporting the full software development life-cycle
• 3+ years of experience with ARM, MicroBlaze, MSP430, PIC18, or CC111x a plus.
• Experience with git, mercurial (Hg), or Surround SCM and Helix ALM a plus.
• 2+ years of experience with Object Oriented Programming (C++) highly desired.

Master’s candidates should have project work and/or coursework in software engineering. Demonstrated software engineering analysis leading to a specific software design approach is very desirable. This analysis should include considerations of hardware, software, and all other issues needed to derive a product.
