Job summary

General Dynamics - IT seeks a Fires Systems Engineer to support the Worldwide Field Support contract in Ottawa, Canada. You will install, configure, test, and maintain AFATDS systems, troubleshoot interfaces, and monitor performance across hardware, software, and networks.

You will prepare reports and provide over-the-shoulder training to artillery operators. Required BA/BS degree, minimum 3 years experience, Active Secret Clearance, and CompTIA Security+ CE.

• Valid U.S. Passport with at least 2 years remaining.
• Prior military experience is highly desirable.
• Windows 10 (or later) system administration.
• Windows Server 2012 (or later) administration.
• Basic networking fundamentals.
• VMware vSphere Version 6.5.
• Expert-level knowledge of AFATDS operations, hardware, and software components.
• Familiarity with JADOCS, JTIC2S, JTT, JTT-CP, MIDB, MARS, GCCS-J.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, test, and maintain AFATDS OS, apps, and management tools.
• Initialize, configure, and troubleshoot software interfaces.
• Monitor systems, networks, and infrastructure for performance.
• Ensure high availability, reliability, and resilience of systems.
• Monitor app performance, identify bottlenecks, and collaborate on fixes.
• Maintain system security, backups, and redundancy strategies.
• Assist in design/enhancement of support systems.
• Prepare weekly/bi-weekly technical and operational reports.
• Provide training and mentorship to artillery operators.
• Assist Canadian Army units with exercises and live-fire events.
• Assist PMO with system acceptance and on-site/remote support.

Fires Systems Engineer GDIT has an immediate career opportunity for a Fires Systems Engineer to support our Worldwide Field Support contract in Ottawa, Canada.

• Install, configure, test, and maintain AFATDS operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
• Initialize, configure, and troubleshoot software interfaces.
• Manage and monitor all installed systems, networks, and infrastructure for optimal performance.
• Ensure high availability, reliability, and resilience of system and network infrastructure.
• Monitor and evaluate application performance, identify bottlenecks, propose solutions, and collaborate with developers to implement fixes.
• Maintain system security, backup procedures, and redundancy strategies.
• Participate in the design and enhancement of information and operational support systems as required.
• Prepare weekly and bi-weekly technical and operational reports.
• Provide over-the-shoulder training and mentorship to artillery operators.
• Assist Canadian Army Artillery units in planning and executing simulated and live-fire unit/formation-level exercises.
• Apply advanced knowledge of AFATDS hardware, components, and operational procedures.
• Assist the Joint Fires Modernization Project Management Office with system acceptance, technical systems testing, management of interdependent systems interfaces of in-service and future systems, and on-site and remote support of field units implementing AFATDS

What you'll need to succeed:
