Job summary

City of Henderson, Kentucky is seeking a Firefighter-in-Training to learn basic firefighting and rescue techniques through in-house and state academy training. The role focuses on attending courses, gaining skills in search and rescue, fire attack, ventilation, and safety operations under the Fire Chief’s guidance.

Candidate must complete required certifications (EMT-B, FF1/FF2, HazMat) within specified timelines and maintain fitness and readiness for emergency responses.

Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Must be certified and maintain KY EMT-B.
• Must be or become Kentucky Certified Career Firefighter within one year of employment.
• Must be or become certified in Bloodborne Pathogens.
• Must be FF1/FF2 and HazMat Awareness and Operations within two years.

Responsibilities

• Attend prescribed training courses in-house or at the Fire Academy.
• Perform firefighting and rescue tasks and maintain equipment.
• Maintain physical fitness and adhere to chain of command.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Valid driver’s license

KY EMT-B certification

Kentucky Certified Career Firefighter within 1 year

Bloodborne Pathogens certification

FF1/FF2 certification

HazMat Awareness and Operations certification
