Job summary

City of Columbia is seeking candidates for a firefighting role within the Columbia Fire Department. The position involves fire suppression, hazmat response and rescue, plus crowd and traffic control at scenes and basic medical care as a First Responder.

Responsibilities include documentation, safety education, apparatus maintenance, and 24/7 on-call readiness. Required: high school diploma, valid driver’s license, Firefighter II certification; EMT/EMR preferred and 1 year firefighting experience

Qualifications

• Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED.
• Valid Class D Driver’s License is required.
• IFSAC and/or Pro Board Certified Firefighter II certification required.
• EMR and/or EMT certification preferred.
• One year of experience as a career firefighter is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency incidents within Columbia Fire Department’s jurisdiction to perform fire suppression, hazmat response and rescue duties.
• Provide crowd and traffic control at emergency scenes; assist with salvage, overhaul and evacuation activities.
• Respond to medical calls at the First Responder level; CPR and First Aid administered as needed.
• Document all incidents and responses; maintain records and reports.
• Participate in fire prevention and safety education activities; attend training and maintain certifications.
• Remain available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emergency response; perform related duties as assigned.
