Job summary

City of Tybee Island is hiring a Firefighter to join the Fire Department and protect lives and property by responding to fires, medical incidents, rescues and hazardous situations.

The role requires calm under pressure, teamwork in emergency response, and ability to perform physically demanding work in hazardous conditions. Training and community outreach are included as part of duties.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of firefighting, rescue, EMS, hazmat response, water-rescue operations.
• Ability to safely operate fire apparatus, rescue tools, emergency equipment, and radio communications.
• Ability to evaluate rapidly changing emergency conditions and make sound decisions.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical work while wearing protective equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively and interact professionally with coworkers and the public.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fires, medical calls, rescues, hazmat, water-rescue and other emergencies.
• Drives fire apparatus and operates pumps, hoses, ladders, rescue tools and equipment.
• Enters burning buildings and performs fire suppression, rescue, ventilation, and property-conservation tasks.
• Provides emergency medical care within certification level.
• Performs water-rescue and beach-patrol duties.
• Maintains firefighting equipment, tools, and station facilities.
• Participates in training and community Fire Dept. activities.
• Completes required reports and communicates by radio, in person, and writing.
