Job summary

The City of Ashland is accepting applications for a Firefighter in the Ashland Fire Department. The role includes fighting fires, rescue operations, medical care, and equipment operation.

You must be 18–39, a high school graduate or GED, and able to pass a background check, drug testing, and a polygraph if offered. CPAT and KY Firefighter Basic II with IFSAC certifications are required within one year, and KY EMT within two years.

Qualifications

• Age 18 to 39 at the time of application.
• High school diploma or GED with proof.
• Must be orderly, law-abiding, sober, and of sound mind and body.
• Willing to undergo extensive background investigation prior to conditional offer.
• Must pass CPAT and obtain KY Firefighter Basic II with IFSAC Firefighter I, II, Haz-Mat Awareness and Haz-Mat Operations within one year of employment; obtain KY EMT within two years.
• Provide truthful statement of no illicit drug use in past 12 months; may be polygraph.
• Provide copy of education verification and required documents with application.
• Written exam for Firefighter is 100 questions, 2 hours, on Monday, Nov 9, 2026 at Ashland Bus Depot.

Responsibilities

• Prevent, combat, and extinguish fires; perform various rescue operations and provide medical care as needed.
• Operate heavy equipment and participate in training.
• Perform station maintenance and grounds keeping; carry out related duties as assigned.
