Job summary

Town of Exeter is seeking a Firefighter/Paramedic or Advanced EMT to respond to fires, medical emergencies, and rescue operations. Under supervision, you will perform life-saving duties, provide EMS care, and transport patients to medical facilities as needed.

Requirements include NH licensure as Advanced EMT or Paramedic, Firefighter II (NH Level II), CDL-B with tank and air brake endorsements, CPAT within 24 months, and a high school diploma plus two-year college or technical training with 1–3

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; advanced EMS/Fire courses preferred.
• NH licensure as Advanced EMT or EMT-Paramedic; National Registry if applicable.
• Firefighter II or NH Level II certification; valid NH CDL-B with tank and air brake endorsements.
• CPAT passed within past 24 months or eligible as lateral transfer under NH rules.

Responsibilities

• Contain, suppress, and extinguish fires; rescue individuals in life-threatening situations.
• Administer life support and transport patients to medical facilities as needed.
• Operate under the Fire Lieutenant and department policies/procedures.
• Participate in training and maintain required certifications and licenses.

Job description

Position: FIREFIGHTER/ PARAMEDIC or ADVANCED EMT

Starting Pay

*Starting annual compensation shown includes 144 hours of annual holiday pay. Holiday pay is prorated during the first year. Overtime and qualifying incentives are additional.

This is a Group 2 position in the NHRS pension system.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Under the direction of the Fire Lieutenant, responsible for containing, suppressing, and extinguishing fires, rescuing individuals from life threatening situations, and administering life support services to injured persons, including the transport of sick and injured to medical facilities. Candidate performs assigned duties in accordance with established policies and procedures. Duties require knowledge of firefighting and emergency medical response equivalent to completion of a high school diploma plus advanced courses from a two-year college or technical school and one to three years of related job experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Candidates must be licensed by the State of NH as an Advanced EMT or EMT- Paramedic and must possess National Registry Advanced EMT or Paramedic certification. Candidates must be certified Firefighter II or State of NH, Level II, and must maintain a valid State of New Hampshire CDL-B, Commercial Driver’s License with tank endorsement and air brake certification.

Candidates must have passed the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) as required by the NH Division of Fire Standards & Training within the past 24 months, or be eligible as a lateral transfer as indicated by NH RSA 21-P:27, Chapter 700, Part 701.01(a)(b)(d)(f) and 701.02.

Candidates must successfully pass an oral interview with the Town of Exeter, Fire Department.
