Job summary

City of Walla Walla seeks a Firefighter/Paramedic to protect lives and property through fire suppression, prevention, and emergency medical services.

You will respond to fires, vehicle incidents, hazmat situations, and medical emergencies, while operating pumps, ladders, and ventilation tools. The role includes equipment maintenance, training, and community safety education in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age by hire date and a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Valid State driver’s license with good driving record; EVIP certificate within 3 months.
• Non-user of tobacco on and off the job.
• Current WA State Paramedic certification or transfer within 30 days of hire; complete transfer if out-of-state.
• Must meet City’s physical and medical standards.
• Bilingual in Spanish is desired; one year paid/volunteer firefighting experience or IFSAC Firefighter I certification is desired.

Responsibilities

• Participate in fire suppression and emergency medical aid.
• Operate pumps, aerial ladders, and other firefighting apparatus.
• Perform salvage and overhaul; search for and extinguish fires.
• Provide EMS at certification level; drive ambulance and file incident reports.
• Provide public fire safety tours and education; participate in training.
