The City of Saint Charles Fire Department is creating an eligibility list for full time Firefighter/Paramedics to perform fire/rescue operations and administer advanced emergency care to the sick and injured.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Assists in the rescue of persons from physically threatening situations, responds to emergency calls, administers basic and advanced emergency medical care to the ill or injured.
  • Performs critical examination of injured/ill patients.
  • Performs fire suppression as directed.
  • Performs such tasks as called out under Missouri State Statutes for Mobile Emergency Medical Technicians
  • Performs equipment and building maintenance.
  • Prepares and submits various reports as required by the Fire Department.
  • Assists in providing medical training and medical equipment training to Fire Department personnel as directed by their supervisor.
  • Performs fire prevention and public fire education as directed.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A valid state driver's license.
  • Provide and verification of the following certifications:
    1. American Heart Association Advance Life Support, Basic Life Support, and Pediatric Life Support Certification required at time of hire.
    2. Either International Trauma Life Support or Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support Certification required at time of hire.
    3. MO Paramedic License required at time of hire.
    4. Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) required at time of hire.
    5. MO Fire Fighter I & II (Pro Board Acceptable) required at time of hire.
  • One or more years of Emergency Medical Responder – preferred.

Qualified applicants will need to take the Certified Physical Agility Test (CPAT) exam. This particular exam is available through the St. Louis County Fire Academy which is located at 1266 Sutter Avenue in Wellston, Missouri 63133. All applicants seeking employment with the St. Charles Fire Department must have a current CPAT card. CPAT cards are valid for one year from the date of issuance shown on the card. Valid CPAT cards should be turned in to the HR representative when reporting for the written test. More information on the CPAT exam process can be obtained by contacting the St. Louis Fire Academy at 314-889-8670 or by checking the St. Louis County Fire Academy web site. Open testing is done the first and third Tuesday of each month. Pre-registration is required. The fee for the test is $100.00.
