Job summary

Vallen seeks a Firefighter Lieutenant to provide leadership and supervision of Firefighters, overseeing fire suppression, EMS, hazmat responses, fire prevention, inspections, and daily station operations.

Required: High School or GED; Bachelor's preferred or 6+ years of direct experience and 5+ current certifications (NFPA 1081 or equivalent); must read/write English. Strong crisis management and safety awareness are essential.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required; Bachelor's in related field preferred or 6+ years of applicable direct experience and 5+ current certifications (manufacturer/state) in fire protection and/or related field.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents; provide appropriate services including emergency rescue and fire suppression.
• Participate in fire prevention operations, training, investigations, and equipment maintenance; assist in response to disasters and hazardous materials.
• Identify, isolate, and contain hazardous materials safely.
• Perform inspection, testing and maintenance of emergency equipment and life safety systems as per SOPs.
• Maintain emergency vehicle equipment logs and EMS supplies; assist with incident and patient reports.

Position Summary:

Under direction of the Fire Captain or above, the Firefighter Lieutenant provides leadership and acts as a working supervisor to Firefighters. Oversees fire company activities including fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous material incidents, fire prevention, monthly and annual inspection activities, public education and the daily operation and maintenance of a fire station. They will need basic knowledge of regulatory standards pertaining to State, OSHA and NFPA standards. The Firefighter Lieutenant will respond and assist on all emergencies including,
Hazard Material Incidents, Fire Operations, Search and Rescue Operations, both Confined Space and High Angle Operations as well as Medical Incidents.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents; provide appropriate services as required including emergency rescue and fire suppression; perform search and rescue for trapped or injured persons; perform emergency medical and first aid services as needed; prepare reports regarding emergency incidents as assigned.

• Participate in a variety of fire prevention operations, activities and programs including training, fire investigations; equipment operation and maintenance; participate in activities in response to natural disasters, incidents involving hazardous materials, and other emergency situations.
• Identifies, isolates, and contains hazardous materials in a safe and effective manner
• Participate in cleaning and maintaining fire station, equipment, and apparatus; ensure that appropriate conditions are maintained; ensure that all equipment and apparatus are in a constant state of readiness.
• Respond to a variety of hazardous materials incidents.
• Perform Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of emergency response equipment as well as installed life safety systems in accordance with Vallen and Customer SOP's.
• Maintain emergency vehicle equipment logs.
• Maintain and track EMS supplies and inventory.
• Submit requisitions for additional materials and supplies as necessary.
• Assist Fire Captain or Paramedic with Incident and Patient Reports.
• Perform other related job duties and related job tasks as assigned

Job Qualifications:

High School or GED required; Bachelor's in related field of study preferred or 6+ years of applicable direct experience and 5+ current certifications (manufacturer/state) in fire protection and/or related field. Applicable experience should include:

• Firefighter II, IFSAC/ProBoard or NFPA 1081 equivalent
• Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) - preferred
• Confined Space Training
• Must be able to read, write and comprehend English.

Must have the ability to climb stairwells up to 15 high. Must have the ability to ascend and descend ladders (step, extension, case) up to 24' high. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
