Position Summary

Under the direction of the Fire Lieutenant or above, the Vallen Firefighter will perform a variety of administrative and technical tasks in support of fire suppression, fire prevention, hazardous materials, emergency medical, and other emergency services. Responsibilities include inspecting, testing, maintaining, and repairing Life Safety Equipment such as fire extinguishers, hoses, monitors, respirators (SCBA), etc., and providing documentation for testing and repairs.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents; provide fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical, and first aid services; and prepare incident reports.
  • Participate in fire prevention activities, training, investigations, and equipment maintenance.
  • Identify, isolate, and contain hazardous materials safely.
  • Maintain fire station, equipment, and apparatus; ensure readiness.
  • Respond to hazardous materials incidents.
  • Inspect, test, and maintain response and safety equipment according to SOPs.
  • Maintain logs and track EMS supplies and inventory; report supply levels.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred or 6+ years of relevant experience with 5+ current certifications (fire protection, EMS, rescue, etc.). Certifications should include Firefighter I (IFSAC/ProBoard/NFPA 1081), EMR, CPR & AED, Hazardous Materials Technician, Rope Rescue, and Confined Space. Must be able to read, write, and understand English.

Physical Demands

  • Regular talking and hearing; sitting, standing, walking; lifting up to 55 pounds; climbing ladders and stairwells; visual focus required.
