Job summary

Air Force Materiel Command is seeking qualified applicants under the GS-0081 Fire Protection and Prevention Series. The position requires specialized experience or an equivalent educational background in fire science and related fields.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to control or extinguish fires, perform rescue operations, and manage hazardous materials incidents. Training in fire protection and prevention will be provided as part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Specialized experience required per OPM GS-08 Fire Protection and Prevention Series.
  • Education substitution allowed with 4-year degree in Fire Science, Fire Training, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Fire protection and prevention duties as described in the IOR for GS-0081.
  • Control or extinguish fires as part of a fire department or brigade.
  • Conduct rescue operations when needed.
  • Identify and mitigate fire hazards to prevent incidents.
  • Operate fire communications equipment.
  • Manage hazardous materials incidents and/or
  • Develop or deliver training in fire protection and prevention.

Education

4-year degree in Fire Science/Fire Training or related field

Job description

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0081, Fire Protection and Prevention Series.

Specialized experience GS-05: Applicants must have at least one (1) year, or will have one year within 120 days of closing of this announcement, at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay system.

  • controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade;
  • rescue operations;
  • detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards;
  • operation of fire communications equipment;
  • controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or
  • developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention.

OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Successfully completed of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or other related fields of study. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES.
