Job summary

Rural Metro Fire in Des Moines, IA seeks a Firefighter EMT to perform fire suppression and pre-hospital medical procedures, respond to emergencies, and support rescue operations.

The role includes vehicle and equipment inspections, documentation, training participation, public safety outreach, and compliance with policies. Candidates must hold firefighter certifications, EMT-B, CPR, a valid license, and be able to work 24-hour shifts including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• State, IFSAC/ProBoard Firefighter II and HazMat-Operations certification.
• State or National Registered EMT-B.
• Current CPR/AED certification.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record; DUI in last 5 years disqualifying.
• Able to work 24-hr shifts and any shift including nights, holidays and weekends.
• Available for overtime as needed on emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents with medical, fire suppression and rescue duties.
• Operate fire equipment and apparatus; conduct search and rescue; ventilation and salvage.
• Provide written reports of actions taken on scene.
• Perform daily vehicle and equipment inspections.
• Participate in required training including drills and OSHA.
• Conduct fire safety inspections and public education activities.
