FIREFIGHTER/EMT
Definitions & Duties:
The applicant must be available to work a flexible schedule that shall include weekends and holidays.A standard 24 on/48 off type schedule. The successful applicant will be hired on a 6-month probationary period before becoming a permanent employee assigned to the position. The applicant will report to the Fire Chief and command staff.
The duties of the employee will be subject to but not limited to the following:
- Respond to fire, rescue and medical calls and perform duties of a professional firefighter/EMT.
- Performs firefighting activities including laying and connecting hose lines; directing fire streams; raising and climbing ladders; other fire suppression activities; operation of power tools; performing forcible entry; salvage and overhaul; ventilation of heat and smoke; vehicle extrication.
- Provide emergency medical care per medical protocol.
- Daily inspection of emergency vehicles and associated equipment.
- Entry and completion of required fire/EMS call reports.
- Perform routine public education and fire prevention programs.
- Maintain fire and EMS certifications via continuing education program and department training.
- Participate in the following programs: pre- incident planning, company fire inspections, PPE testing program, hose testing program and other operations programs assigned.
- Accessible to work call back tours of duty.
- Other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief
Employee Pay and Benefits:
- Starting salary range depending on experience $57,664.15. Experience is based on paid professional experience up to 5 years lateral transfer. This position is 24/48 work schedule and is based on an average of 2,912 hours of work per year, with 2,674 hours being at regular time and 238 hours of overtime.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age at date of application
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- TCFP (Texas Commission on Fire Protection) Basic Structural Firefighter
- Texas DSHS (Department of State Health Services) EMT-B or higher
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License. Must obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s license within three (3) months of employment.
Physical Qualifications:
- Prolonged standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Stretching, bending, pushing, stooping, climbing, crouching, and crawling.
- Must be able to perform physical activities such as lifting light and heavy objects at times over 100 pounds and the occasional climbing of ladders.
- The work is often completed in dangerous, highly stressful indoor and outdoor situations that expose the incumbent to hot, cold and inclement weather, heights, contagious and infectious diseases, and noisy environments. Work requires the use of heavy protective clothing and devices such as air packs, masks, helmets, and surgical gloves.
