Job summary

The City of Bloomington is seeking a firefighter/EMT to extinguish and prevent fires, perform rescues, render medical aid, and respond to hazardous materials incidents and other emergencies. The role also supports fire education for building owners, homeowners, and the community.

Active in inspections and investigations as needed and expected to work within a union, 24-hour shift schedule, and full benefits. Equal opportunity employer committed to diversity.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required and must read/write English.
• Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 certifications or equivalent.
• Emergency Medical Technician certification required.
• Hazardous Materials Operations Level training.
• Fire Apparatus Operator within one year of hire.
• MN State Firefighter License Eligible.

Responsibilities

• Perform firefighting tasks and rescue operations under stressful conditions while in PPE/SCBA.
• Perform emergency medical tasks and assist in patient care and transport.
• Operate as part of a team; support other firefighters during emergencies.
• Read and interpret hazard warnings quickly in emergencies.
• Communicate clearly with the public and team during alarms and incidents.
• Respond to all alarms and staff appropriate firefighting vehicles and apparatus.
• Participate in drills and training to maintain proficiency in emergency response.
