Job summary

The Town of Harrisburg, NC is hiring Firefighter EMTs to join the Fire Department. Employees work 24-hour shifts, supporting a team in maintaining facilities, equipment, and apparatus at the fire station.

Responsibilities include serving as EMS Basic on calls in Harrisburg and the Fire District, participating in education, prevention activities, pre-incident planning, and training to stay current with state-of-the-art fire suppression techniques.

Qualifications

• Firefighter EMT role requiring knowledge of fire science, hazmat response, rescue operations, and EMS procedures.
• Candidates should understand hydraulics, mechanics, pre-fire planning and construction.
• High school diploma or equivalent and completion of fire service courses; NC Firefighter I/II certification preferred.

WHAT WE NEED

• The Town of Harrisburg is currently seeking Firefighter EMTs to join our Fire Department.
• Employees work on a 24-hour shift and participate as part of a team in the maintenance of facilities, equipment, and apparatus at a fire station.
• Employees serve as first responder Emergency Medical Technician - Basic for calls in the Town of Harrisburg and Harrisburg Fire District.
• Employees participate in fire education and prevention activities.
• Employees also participate in pre-incident planning, maintenance of records, and training programs.
• Work requires that the employee stay abreast of state-of-the-art fire suppression and rescue procedures, techniques, and equipment and requires the employee to incorporate the necessary changes into in-service training.
• Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and written reports concerning the quality and effectiveness of work completed.

DESIRABLE CANDIDATE

• We are looking for individuals with knowledge of in the areas of fire science, hazardous materials response and handling, rescue operations, emergency medical response procedures, hydraulics, mechanics, pre-fire planning, and construction.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by completion of courses and seminars in fire service; or an equivalent combination of experience and education required.
• Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Complete Harrisburg Fire Department Recruit Training Program.
• Possession of a valid class B North Carolina driver's license.
• Possession of or ability to obtain within department required time frames NC Firefighter I/ II.
• North Carolina EMT - Basic, Rescue, and Hazardous Materials certifications.
