Job summary

The City of Morganton is seeking a Firefighter for the Public Safety Department. You will respond to emergencies, assist in fire suppression, rescue operations, and maintain equipment and facilities.

You must meet basic requirements and complete the field-training program after hire. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, ability to obtain a Class B license, OSHA compliance, and a fitness assessment.

• Assist with preplanning, inspections, and smoke alarm installations.
• 24-hour on/48-hour off schedule.

Job description

Firefighter - Public Safety Department

Responding to emergency fire, medical, vehicle accident, and related situations; participating in fire suppression, vehicle extraction, and rescue; maintaining equipment and facilities; continuing training and instruction. Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fires, including rescue, entry, ventilating, salvage work, containment of hazardous materials, traffic control, crowd control, etc.; Performs overhaul work; assists in maintaining fire apparatus and equipment and cleaning fire station grounds; inspects, cleans and maintains fire hose pumps, hydrants, assists with preplanning and inspection activities; conducts smoke alarm inspections and installations. North Carolina Fire Fighter Certification is preferred, but not mandatory. The applicant must possess a high school diploma, or equivalent, be able to obtain a class B driver's license, meet OSHA requirements, and successfully complete a physical fitness/agility assessment. Upon hire, applicant must successfully complete the field-training program. Firefighters will work a 24-hour on/48 hour off schedule. The pay range for this position is $ 43,854 - $ 65,782.
