Skilled technical work in the field of fire suppression, prevention and emergency medical services. Fulfill duties of employment as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Work is performed under the general direction of a Company Officer.

Each affidavit must be completed, notarized, and submitted with your online application. Your application WILL BE REJECTED if all three (3) required documents are not attached. Once submitted, you will not be able to edit or submit paperwork in person.

The following are key responsibilities:

  • Lay, connect and place hose line in operation. Raise and climb ladders. Enter burning buildings. Use hand tools and equipment. Ventilate structures. Deploy salvage covers and remove debris.
  • Assist with emergency medical services and rescue operations by carrying individuals from danger.
  • Inspect apparatus and equipment, notify supervisor of defects, assist with routine maintenance, and ensure readiness.
  • Conduct visual and physical fire inspections to identify hazards.
  • Attend drills and training sessions.
  • Respond to service calls, implement Incident Management System (IMS), and direct emergency operations until relieved.
  • Follow EMS protocols, SOGs, and administer basic life support.
These duties are not exhaustive; employees may perform other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of firefighter and driver engineer duties.
  • Knowledge of city geography, hydrants, and building access.
  • Knowledge of high-risk and hazardous occupancies.
  • Ability to handle fire, rescue, and medical emergencies effectively.
  • Knowledge of record management systems.
  • Knowledge of paramedic principles and practices.
  • Adherence to policies, rules, and protocols.
  • Ability to perform essential functions effectively.

Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent. Must be 18 or older.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:

  • Current CPAT/PAT within 12 months of application.
  • State of Florida or National Registry EMT-B Certification.
  • State of Florida Firefighter II Certification.
  • State of Florida Class E Driver’s License.
  • EVOC Certificate recognized by Florida Bureau of EMS.

Physical Skills:

  • Meet physical requirements for certification.
  • Endure physical exhaustion and stressful situations.
  • Operate heavy vehicles and equipment.
  • Heavy lifting (45+ pounds), reaching, climbing, and other physical activities.
  • Pass basic water safety swim test.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Hazards include flames, chemicals, smoke, gases, moving vehicles, falling debris, electricity, poor conditions.
  • Stressful situations and potential exposure to infectious diseases.
