Job summary

Weslaco Fire Department is seeking a Firefighter to perform duties in the Suppression Division and participate in emergency and non-emergency service delivery. The role requires completing TCFP certification, EMT-Paramedic training, and maintaining a valid Texas Driver's License while working a 24-hour shift schedule.

Probationary employees must attend the academy, meet fitness requirements, and progress toward paramedic certification as part of career development within the department.

Qualifications

• Certification issued by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP), or certifiable.
• EMT-Paramedic certificate issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) or National Registry.
• Meet requirements of Chapter 143, Texas Local Government Code for appointment.
• Possess Texas Driver's License and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency incidents and fight fires; provide BLS/ALS and paramedic care as trained.
• Operate firefighting equipment, hoses, and apparatus during suppression activities.
• Clean, maintain, and inspect department buildings, apparatus, and grounds.
• Record incidents and prepare reports; communicate with management and teammates.
• Perform duties under challenging conditions while wearing PPE and self-contained gear.
